    Notes:

I wanted to create a lively atmosphere in the comic. I find that taking inspiration from real life helps add that feeling. During the early stages of the comic-making process I took walks around my neighbourhood area to look for inspiration.

I also like to play with the composition and lettering from time to time. I always loved writing and approaching it like it’s a drawing, so I took this opportunity to play around a lot with that.

Personally, I indulge in crude humor from time to time. I found that that was another aspect of my daily life that I can include in the narrative.

    Approach:

It was important to me that the outcome was a comic that I would want to read and enjoy. As much as I want others to enjoy the story, I’m doing this for me first and foremost. I tried to keep that mindset throughout.

It’s sometimes feels more natural to cater to an audience, or make decisions based on what you think others would enjoy. But in doing so you can kind of lose that authenticity, which is a quality I appreciate in an artwork.

If you want to have a good time reading a comic or story and it’s not out there yet, why not make it yourself.

    Media Inspirations/Influences:

When it came down to it, I find that a lot of pieces of media that I‘ve liked consuming kept me inspired to create my own story.
Notable shows being Steven Universe, Spongebob, Garfield, Adventure Time, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Bee & Puppycat.
Along with comics such as Unfamiliar by Haley Newsome, MondoMango by The Kao, and Ascent by Kevin Lam.
    And lots more.
